The Clerk serves as the secretary to the Value Adjustment Board. The department’s function to this Board is to accept, verify, and attest to petitions received over the counter and through the mail; to work in conjunction with the Property Appraiser’s Office to schedule hearings; and notify petitioners of their hearing schedule.
It is also this department’s responsibility to attend the proceedings, make audio recordings, and prepare advertisements required by law.
Petitions
Filing a Petition
To file a petition, you must fill out the Petition to Value Adjustment Board Request for Hearing form and mail or hand-deliver it to our office at 1 Courthouse Circle, Monticello, FL 32344. The fee to file a petition is $50. Petitioners will receive a notice of hearing at least 25 days prior to the scheduled hearing date. Notices will be mailed to the address that appears on the petition form. If a petitioner has changed addresses, it is his/her responsibility to notify the VAB Clerk.
The Florida Department of Revenue (FDOR) provides the Uniform Policies and Procedures Manual that outlines the VAB process. You are encouraged to review this manual before attending your hearing, along with all notices sent to you by the Clerk to the VAB.
The Clerk to the VAB is also responsible for scheduling hearing dates and times for all petitioners.
Withdrawing a Petition
To withdraw your petition, you must fill out the Value Adjustment Board Withdrawal of Petition form and mail or hand-deliver it to our office at 1 Courthouse Circle, Monticello, FL 32344.
Board Members
The Value Adjustment Board consists of two members of the Board of County Commissioners, one member of the County School Board, and two Citizens. The Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller also serves as Clerk to the VAB.
